A year wiser

We had a quiet birthday celebration for Tim at home--thanks for all the birthday phone calls and email! I hope I get that much attention on my birthday in a couple weeks (hint hint)!

1st week of school

Last Monday Tyler started 1st grade! That makes me feel old... He was excited to be with his school friends again--he already knew almost half of the kids in his class. His class is supposed to be above-grade, so hopefully it'll be a good challenge for him. Our neighbor across the street sits right behind him in class--we'll see if the teacher decides to keep them in those seats! We were excited for Tyler, but very sad to have him gone from home. We had a really fun summer with him--he was our nonstop entertainment. Claire's excited to start preschool soon.

Ice cream beard!

This was one of the few times that Scott got messy, so we just had to take a picture. Of course, it was a very clean-looking rocky road beard.

In case you haven't heard, Scott hit another rough spot last week. He was on the bottom fort in the backyard, and Tyler was playing with the hose on the slide above. Apparantly the water shook up a huge wasp nest that we didn't know was there, and Scott got stung on his forehead by two angry wasps. Poor Scott. The next morning his right eye was all puffed up, and the morning after (yesterday) both eyes were puffy. Everyone at church was probably wondering what really goes on in our home, with Scott just barely recovering from his broken collarbone. Thankfully today the swelling has gone down and he looks like himself. Good thing he's a tough kid!

The funny (and sad) thing is how Scott blames Tyler for what happened, just like he did for his collarbone. Whenever someone would ask how he broke his collarbone, Scott would say, "Tyler spin me really fast, fall on exercise machine." This time he's saying, "Tyler play with hose." Tyler's a good sport about it and laughs with us about it.

Staying cool

On Saturday we finally cleaned out our little pool and moved it onto the gravel. We'll see how long it lasts there... The other kid in the picture is our neighbor who has almost become another member of the family this summer. The kids (and Tim) had fun swinging into the pool too.
